“What’s that?” interrupted Billy.

“Well I’ll be blown down a whale’s sock. You don’t know what the Golden Crab Claw award is?

“What sort of children are you? What sort of school do you go to? Don’t those captains of yours tell you anything?”

“Our parents have never told us about that award,” said Heidi. “We didn’t even know there was a Pirate School.”

“Unbelievable! What cruelty! Ah well, such is life … on the land. The Golden Crab Claw award is given each year by the bent-up, creaky old pirates who run the Land Ahoy Cabbage Shop on Belly Button Island.”

“Cabbage shop?”

“That’s right. Any type of cabbage you want. Any way you want it. Those old pirates know more about cabbages than anybody I have ever met before.”
